Terms of Service
Effective: March 4, 2026
By using Saysay, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. These terms are written in plain language. They are legally binding.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service govern your use of Saysay, operated by Saysay News. By accessing or using the service, you agree to be bound by these terms.
You must be at least 13 years old to use Saysay. If you are between 13 and 17, your parent or legal guardian must agree to these terms on your behalf. By using Saysay, you confirm this has occurred.
2. Using Saysay
Saysay is a news aggregation and community reporting platform. We aggregate news from public sources and allow users to contribute local reports. Our service uses AI to process, summarize, and recommend content.
3. Your Responsibilities
When using Saysay, you agree to:
- Use the service respectfully and in compliance with applicable laws
- Not knowingly share false, misleading, or fabricated information, or spam
- Keep your account credentials secure and not share them with others
- Not attempt to access, tamper with, or disrupt our systems or infrastructure
- Not use automated tools to access the service in a way that degrades performance for others
We appreciate reports of issues or bugs you encounter.
4. Your Rights
As a user, you can:
- Cancel your account at any time, with deletion of your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy
- Export your data in a readable format
- Control the notifications and communications you receive
Saysay is currently a free service. There are no hidden fees or charges. If we introduce paid features in the future, they will require your explicit opt-in.
5. Content You Submit
When you submit news, photos, or videos to Saysay, you retain ownership of your content. You grant us permission to publish, share, and distribute your reports as described in the license below.
We may edit submissions for clarity, accuracy, or length. This is standard newsroom practice. Your content may appear on Saysay and through our distribution channels.
6. License You Grant Us
By submitting content, you grant Saysay a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, publish, distribute, and display your content in connection with our service. For published content, this license is perpetual to preserve the news record. For unpublished content, the license is revocable upon deletion.
- This license allows your content to reach readers anywhere, including overseas Filipino communities
- The perpetual license for published content continues even after you delete your account, as it becomes part of the news record
- We may sublicense to news partners solely for news reporting and editorial purposes, not for commercial advertising or promotional use
7. Your Representations
When you submit content, you represent that:
- The content is your original work, or you have the right to share it
- Any identifiable individuals featured prominently in photos or videos have given you permission, or the content was captured in a public setting where no reasonable expectation of privacy exists
- The content does not infringe on any copyright, trademark, or other rights
- To the best of your knowledge, the information is accurate
8. Editorial Rights
As a news platform, we may:
- Adjust headlines, summaries, or formatting for different platforms
- Group your report with related stories for broader context
- Translate content between English and Filipino
- Feature submissions in compilations or partner publications
9. Moral Rights
Philippine law protects your moral rights as a content creator under the Intellectual Property Code (RA 8293). We respect these rights:
- Attribution — we credit you as the source, unless you choose to remain anonymous
- Integrity — we will not distort your work in a way that harms your reputation
- You acknowledge that reasonable editorial modifications are necessary for news publication
- If AI processing substantially transforms your content beyond the original submission, we will notify you before publishing it under your name
- You may request removal of your content, subject to our data retention policies
10. Content Moderation
We review content through a combination of automated systems and human review. If your content violates these terms, we may:
- Remove the content and notify you of the reason
- Issue a warning for minor or first-time violations
- Suspend your account for repeated or serious violations
- Permanently ban your account in cases of severe abuse
Except in cases of severe violation, you will receive notice before action is taken and may appeal moderation decisions by contacting us at [email protected]. We aim to respond to appeals within 7 business days.
11. Copyright Complaints
If you believe content on Saysay infringes your copyright, you may submit a notice to [email protected] including:
- A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed
- The URL or location of the infringing content on Saysay
- Your contact information
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized
We will review and respond to valid complaints within 7 business days. Users whose content is removed may submit a counter-notification. Repeat infringers may have their accounts terminated.
12. Third-Party Content
Saysay aggregates news from public sources. We do not guarantee the accuracy of third-party content and are not liable for errors, omissions, or defamatory statements in aggregated content. Third-party content remains the responsibility of its original publisher.
13. Service Availability
We strive to keep Saysay available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control — including natural disasters, internet outages, or government orders.
In legal terms: the service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Saysay and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising from your use of the service.
Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to the service shall not exceed the greater of PHP 5,000 or the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Saysay, its operators, and affiliates from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your content submissions or your violation of these terms.
16. Termination
You may stop using Saysay and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms or engage in conduct that harms other users or the service. Except in cases of severe violation, we will provide notice before termination and a 7-day period to address non-severe issues.
Upon termination, the content license you granted us for published content survives, as it is part of the news record. Your personal data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
17. Dispute Resolution
If you have a dispute with Saysay, we encourage you to contact us first at [email protected]. We will attempt to resolve the matter informally within 30 days.
If informal resolution is unsuccessful, either party may pursue mediation under the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act (RA 9285) before filing a court action. Litigation shall be a last resort.
18. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you at least 14 days in advance through the app or by email. Your continued use of Saysay after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
If you do not agree with the changes, you may export your data and close your account before the changes take effect.
19. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of Saysay shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Metro Manila, Philippines.
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect. These terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Saysay regarding your use of the service.
